In 2021, Malaysia spent more than nine billion U.S. dollars on research and development, and it was forecast to increase to more than ten billion U.S. dollars in 2022. The Malaysian government's spending on R&D has been steadily increasing since 2020, but remained at around one percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
