Annual debit card spending in Brazil 2012-2022, in local currency and USD
Debit card transactions in Brazil equaled more than 910 Brazilian real in 2021, an increase of 12 percent when compared to the previous year. This meant the use of debit cards in Latin American kept growing, although not as much as it did between 2019 and 2020. Payment cards are not one of Brazil's most popular in-store payment methods, as consumers either preferred credit cards or cash. Notable for the country is the increase in mobile wallets as well as retailer financing.
