On February 6, 2023 two major earthquakes with the epicenter Pazarcık, Kahramanmaraş and Elbistan, Kahramanmaraş struck Turkey, resulting in the deadliest earthquake in the last century of the country. As of March 4, the estimated death toll stood at over 45 thousand. Additionally, earthquakes in Erzincan in 1939 and Gölcük, Kocaeli in 1999 killed nearly 33 and 17.5 thousand people at the time, respectively.
