The emission intensity of electricity supply in the United Kingdom amounted to 48 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2021. The volume of carbon dioxide emissions from electricity production in this country decreased steadily between 2012 and 2020, dropping from 157 to 44 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in less than 10 years.
This decline was due to the increasing share of low-carbon energy sources in the electricity production mix of the UK.
