As of 2022, the residential sector recorded the highest electricity consumption among all end-use sectors in the United States, at roughly five quadrillion British thermal units. This was followed by the commercial sector, in which consumption amounted to 4.7 quadrillion British thermal units. Also that year, some 800 trillion British thermal units were lost during transmission and distribution, while conversion losses reached some 23.13 quadrillion British thermal units.
