Police cases involving cannabis Germany

In 2022, there were 174,876 instances in which the law regarding cannabis and its preparation was broken and recorded by the police in Germany. This was a decrease compared with the previous year, possibly due to the fact that Germany has been relaxing laws around cannabis over the past few years.

¹ This statistic shows the number of violations in accordance with § 29 BtMG in connection with cannabis. The total includes the cases of illicit trafficking and smuggling of cannabis as well as the cases of illicit importation of cannabis. The total of drug-related offences to cannabis can be found here.

² The criminal offenses found out by the police that were finally processed by them in the respective reporting year are shown, this includes the attempts threatened with punishment and the drug offenses processed by customs. Statistical recording only takes place when it is submitted to the public prosecutor's office (initial statistics).

The figures for 2020 were taken from Polizeiliche Kriminalstatistik (PKS) 2021 - Zeitreihen - Grundtabelle.
