Supplementary notes

The market for Public Cloud includes revenues generated by the three cloud computing service models of Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, and Software as a Service. In general, these services are offered by third-party service providers who deliver computing resources such as servers and storage capabilities, developing tools and frameworks as well as business applications to customers via the internet. These services are remotely managed, enabled, and distributed by third-party, large-scale data centers.

Market values represent revenues paid to primary vendors (excluding VAT) and include spending by consumers (B2C), enterprises (B2B) as well as governments (B2G). Revenues are allocated to the country where the money is spent. In comparison to a private cloud, a public cloud offers its services not only to individual organizations, but to many other users via the public internet. Public cloud allows for scalability and resource sharing that would not otherwise be possible for a single organization to achieve.

Company examples: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Salesforce, IBM.
