Global carbon dioxide removal sales 2023, by leading supplier
Danish energy company Ørsted is one of the leading suppliers of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits worldwide. In 2023, Microsoft signed a deal with Ørsted to buy credits for 2.76 million metric tons of CDRs over a period of 11 years using bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS). Meanwhile, UK-based power company Drax Group announced a major carbon removal deal with Respira International in 2021 for two million CDRs over a five-year period, to sell on a voluntary carbon market.
