Change in the GHG emissions of GRESB buildings worldwide 2020-2022, by region
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the buildings sector declined across all regions worldwide in 2021, based on data from the GRESB. As the economy reopened from the coronavirus pandemic in 2022, GHG emissions in Asia and Europe picked up. Progress slowed down in Oceania and the Americas, but real estate companies operating in these regions still decreased their GHG emissions. In Oceania, the emissions declined by about five percent in 2022. Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) is an industry-led organization that collects, validates, scores, and benchmarks ESG performance. ESG benchmarking has been a growing trend among real estate companies worldwide, with the number of companies participating in GRESB benchmark increasing year-on-year since 2013.
