Value of repeat buyer mortgage lending in Ireland 2018-2022
The value of mortgage loans for second and subsequent borrowers (SSBs) granted in Ireland grew by approximately 700 million euros in 2022. In that year, nearly 4.6 billion euros worth of mortgage loans were granted to repeat homebuyers, up from approximately 3.9 billion euros granted in 2021. The sole year that witnessed a decline in the value of loans occurred in 2020, with loans amounting to nearly 3.1 billion euros, a decrease from the 3.7 billion euros in 2019. Loans to first-time homebuyers followed a similar trend.
