In financial year 2023, the busiest route of the national waterways in India was NW-91 (Shastri river–Jaigad creek system), with 27 percent of the total traffic. It was followed distantly by NW-10 (Amba river), at 23 percent. During the same period, the total volume of goods transported on Indian national waterways was around 126.2 million metric tons.
