Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d'Italia - FdI) represents the main right-wing party in the country's political spectrum. It was founded in 2013, after a split from Forza Italia organized by the most reactionary and conservative members of the party under the leadership of Giorgia Meloni. Initially, FdI performed poorly in the general and European elections, staying below five percent of the popular consensus. However, since 2019 the party's popularity grew steadily, and, in particular, over the last years of the COVID-19 emergency, when it was the only faction opposing Mario Draghi's premiership. Hence, after the 2022 parliamentary elections, FdI became the largest Italian party by consensus and recorded its best performance since the foundation, permitting Meloni to become the first female Italian Prime Minister.
