Average annual rate of FGM reduction MENA 2020, by country
According to a survey in 2020, the share of females between 15 and 19 years in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region who have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM) has decreased over the past 15 years at an average of 1.8 percent annually. This is an improvement from an average of 1.1 percent annually over the past 30 years, however, the reduction rate required for the complete elimination of the practice by 2030 remains way higher. Female genital mutilation is internationally recognized as a human rights violation affecting girls and women worldwide.
