Monthly Fed funds effective rate in the U.S. 2000-2020

The U.S. federal funds effective rate amounted to 0.08 percent in June 2020, down from 1.58 percent in February. This rate determines the interest rate paid by depository institutions, such as banks and credit unions, who lend reserve balances to other depository institutions overnight. The Federal Reserve dropped the rate in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
