Domino's Pizza - additional information
Domino’s Pizza was founded in Michigan in 1960 when brothers Tom and James Monaghan paid just 900 U.S. dollars for a small pizza restaurant called DomiNick’s. A few short months later, James traded his half of the business back to Tom in return for a used Volkswagen Beetle. By 2018, Domino’s Pizza had expanded to more than five thousand stores across the United States. The second largest market was India where the company had 1,195 stores by the end of 2018.
Domino’s pizza ranked ninth in the world’s leading quick service restaurants in terms of revenue in 2016, with 2.47 billion U.S. dollars. It also came in sixth place in a list of the nation’s favorite pizza chains in 2017. However, it was beaten in popularity by competitors such as Papa John's, Marco's Pizza and Papa Murphy's.
In 2017, U.S. consumers spent 36 billion U.S. dollars in the quick service pizza restaurant category, with 26.5 billion of this spent specifically in the delivery and carry-out segments. The same year Domino’s Pizza generated approximately 2.79 billion U.S. dollars in revenue worldwide.
