In 2023, the number of companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was 2,283. The biggest stock exchange in mainland China was the bourse in Shenzhen with 2,838 listed enterprises. Ever since the establishment of the Star-A market in Shanghai, the popularity of the stock exchange increased significantly. In September 2021, Beijing Stock Exchange was launched, and started trading in November of that year. This new stock exchange was geared towards innovation-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises.
