Smartphone share of mobile phone users in Australia 2014-2019
As of the second quarter of 2017, Apple had a market share of just under 40 percent of smartphone shipments in Australia. Whilst this represents a reduction from the final quarter of 2016, the manufacturer’s iPhone continues to have the largest market share, having done so since early 2014.
Brands and operating systems
In 2018, around 40 percent of Australians had personal mobile smartphones made by Apple and just over 30 percent used Samsung devices. Huawei, HTC and Nokia were the brand of choice for just two to three percent of personal users.
Despite Apple’s larger market share for hardware, Android is the leading operating system for smartphones in Australia with a market share of just over 55 percent in December 2018. This can be attributed, however, to Android being available across a wide range of devices from different manufacturers.
