Avoidable costs totaled 24.6 billion U.S. dollars for HIV in 2013. Chronic diseases are some of the most prominent and costly, however, they are preventable. Almost a quarter of those with chronic conditions have physical and daily activity limitations. Avoidable costs can rise in patients with chronic diseases due to non-adherence to treatment.
