Although the number of healthcare institutions has slightly fallen in Hungary, the number of personnel working within the sector has overall increased. The number of physicians employed in Hungary in the period 2000 to 2016 experienced some large fluctuations but ultimately increased from around 27.4 thousand to 31.5 thousand in the seventeen-year period. Specifically, the number of practicing nurses has increased year-on-year since the year 2000 and amounted to almost 63.2 thousand in 2016.
Attitudes towards healthcare in Hungary
The Hungarian public generally have a negative view of the healthcare offered in their country. In a 2018 survey, 42 percent of respondents in Hungary rated the quality of their accessible healthcare as poor while only 20 percent regarded it as good. Furthermore, only 13 percent of surveyed individuals trust the healthcare in their country to provide the best treatment compared to 63 percent who don’t.
