U.S. consumer spending on media 1984-2012 The statistic presents data in the average annual per person expenditure on different media in the United States, starting with 1984 until 2012, across decades. In 1984, an average U.S. consumer spent 40.17 U.S. dollars on books and 40.52 U.S. dollars on magazines. Spending on books increased to nearly 110 U.S. dollars and magazine expenditures rose to 44.31 U.S. dollars a year in 2010.
