Value of Fintech investment areas worldwide in 2014 This statistic presents the value of investment in Fintech (Financial Technology companies) worldwide in 2014, by type. The term Fintech is used to describe the start-up innovative companies operating in the financial sector, which provide modern technology solutions to financial services companies. It was found that SME services developed by worldwide Fintech companies attracted approximately 783.39 million U.S. dollars of investment in 2014. The total value of investment in Fintech globally reached approximately 6.8 billion U.S. dollars.

The most investment in financial technology companies occurred within P2P/online lending/scoring in 2014. Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders directly with borrowers. This service innovates beyond traditional bank lending, matching up those with extra cash, with those who need it.

The second highest investments occurred in online acquiring and m-wallets. Online acquiring services facilitate card payment processes through reduction of the time necessary to process a transaction, protection against fraud and more. An m-wallet/e-wallet /digital wallet is mobile payment system which allows customers to pay for purchases with their smart phones, storing user payment information and passwords so that they can be used for different websites and payment methods.

The value of peer to peer lending is expected to increase significantly by 2025 and mobile wallet activities are already taking place around the world. As of 2014, the United States was a leading Financial Technology location worldwide in terms of value of investments in Fintech companies, with investment value exceeding four billion U.S. dollars. The United States was also a global leader in terms of the number of global venture capital investments in Fintech in 2014.
