London population forecast 2014-2041, by gender By 2041 it is forecasted that there will be approximately 5.2 million men and 5.1 million women living in London. Currently, there are estimated to be more women living in the United Kingdom capital than men, but by 2020 the male population is expected to exceed that of females.
London’s population since 1981
In the 1980s the population of London grew very little and even started to decrease by the end of that decade. By the 1990s the population of London recovered and reached 7.15 million by 1999. London's population has continued to increase in the 21st century, reaching a peak of 8.77 million people in 2017. 

UK’s largest cities
With around 8.83 million people living there in 2017, the population of Greater London is far bigger than any other urban area in the United Kingdom. The next urban area, in the West Midlands has around 2.9 million people and is centered around England’s second city, Birmingham.
