Furniture and soft furnishings: leading importers in the EU in 2019, ranked by value
This statistic illustrates the 15 leading countries within the European Union (EU-28) for extra-EU imports of furniture, furniture parts, mattresses, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings in 2019, ranked by import value. France imported approximately 2.4 billion euros worth of furniture and soft furnishings from outside the European Union and was ranked third, after the United Kingdom and Germany.
Due to the low productions costs of countries outside the European Union, the furniture industry faces enormous competition and it has been recently hit by a significant decrease in the number of enterprises and employees. This fact has been emphasized by China’s penetration into the EU market. Chinese exports of furniture are growing rapidly and it is now the largest furniture exporter to the European Union as well as its main competitor, accounting for over half of total furniture imports to the European Union.
