In 2020, males smoked on average more cigarettes per day than females in Italy. Males, indeed, would smoke 12 cigarettes per day, compared to 9.5 smoked by females. For both genders, there seemed to be a trend of increasing amount in number of cigarettes smoked as people got older, at least until 74 years of age. Males aged 55 to 59 years were the group smoking the most cigarettes, 14.3 on an average day. For females, the age group that smoked the highest amount of cigarettes on average was the 55-74 one, with 10.6.
