The Canadian specialty coffee retailer reported approximately 154.15 million Canadian dollars in system sales of cafes in 2017, down from approximately 163.74 million Canadian dollars the previous year.

Second Cup Coffee Co., colloquially know simply as Second Cup, is a coffee house chain based in Canada. The company was founded in 1975 as a kiosk in a shopping mall in Toronto, Ontario. Today, the company is headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario and is publically traded. Since opening the single kiosk in 1975, the number of Second Cup stores has grown to 286 in 2017. However, this figure declined from 360 stores in 2012, which was the unit number peak in the last half decade.

In addition to the number of stores, other company metrics have also seen declines since this period, for example, system sales experienced a drop of around 40 million Canadian dollars since 2012. It was also in this year, that Second Cup had a loss of 9.4 million Canadian dollars despite making over 13 million Canadian dollars in profit previous the year. Even though some company financials decreased, the 2015 fiscal year had the highest revenue of the last five years, reaching 37.3 million Canadian dollars from approximately 28.1 million Canadian dollars the previous year.

According to a survey by Forum Research, the majority of Second Cup customers are satisfied with the product. Of the people interviewed, 80 percent indicated being either somewhat or very satisfied with the overall experience at Second Cup in the 12 months leading to March 31, 2016. However, the same survey found Second Cup was still losing out to larger competitors Tim Hortons and Starbucks in terms of visitation, with around 50 percent more respondents stating that they had visited a Tim Hortons in that period compared to a Second Cup Café.
