This statistic gives a ranking of the leading public construction and engineering companies in the United States based on revenues for the 2019 financial year. During this time, the Los Angeles-based company, AECOM, generated about 20.17 billion U.S. dollars in revenue. In its annual report, the company said its surge in revenue was largely due to mergers in the recent past.

Globally, Spain’s Grupo ACS is one of the largest construction contractors, garnering about 38 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2018. The construction industry has never undergone a major transformation as it tends to be slower to adapt new technologies, however, the rapid adoption of digitalization is set to alter the industry. The commercial construction industry in the United States has seen continued growth over recent years, however, may see stagnation in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Commercial construction starts are expected to reach 135 billion U.S. dollars in 2022.

In 2019, AECOM was listed as the 163rd place in the Fortune 500 list. This construction company generated about 20.2 billion U.S. dollars in revenues in that year and has been on the Fortune 500 list since 2009. Aecom offers construction, architecture, design and engineering services. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, AECOM helped complete two temporary hospitals in New York.

Fluor, the Irving, Texas-based company, generated revenues amounting to some 17.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2019. The company received 27.7 billion U.S. dollars of consolidated new awards the same year and employed 53,349 people worldwide. The company was ranked 181st in the Fortune 500, and has been on the list since 2002.

One construction company, KBR, was no longer listed in the Fortune 500 list as it dropped down to the 501st position. KBR generated a revenue of 5.64 billion U.S. dollars in 2019.
