Major U.S. public construction companies based on revenue 2018

This statistic gives a ranking of the leading public construction and engineering companies in the United States based on revenues for the 2018 financial year. During this time, the Los Angeles-based company, AECOM, generated about 20.16 billion U.S. dollars in revenue. In its annual report, the company said its surge in revenue was largely due to mergers in the recent past.

Globally, Spain’s Grupo ACS is one of the largest construction contractors, garnering about 32.6 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2016. The construction industry has never undergone a major transformation as it tends to be slower to adapt new technologies, however, the rapid adoption of digitalization is set to alter the industry. The commercial construction industry in the United States is expected to see continued growth into 2017. This industry has been steadily growing since the 2009 economic recession and is expected to experience a revenue growth of 5.3 percent from 2016 to 2017.

In 2018, AECOM was listed as the 157th place in the Fortune 500 list. This construction company generated about 20.2 billion U.S. dollars in revenues in that year and has been on the Fortune 500 list for eight years. Aecom offers construction, architecture, design and engineering services. In 2016, the company garnered the rights to build SpaceX’s Hyperloop test track.

Fluor, the Irving, Texas-based company, generated revenues amounting to some 19.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. The company received 27.7 billion U.S. dollars of consolidated new awards the same year and employed 53,349 people worldwide. The company was ranked 164th in the Fortune 500, and has been on the list for more than 18 years.

One construction company, KBR, was no longer listed in the Fortune 500 list as it dropped down to the 548th position. KBR generated a revenue of 4.91 billion U.S. dollars in 2018.
