Leading public construction companies in the U.S. 2021, based on revenue

In 2021, Lennar and D.R. Horton were the leading public construction and engineering companies in the United States (U.S.) based on revenue. During this time, the Dallas-based company, AECOM, generated about 14 billion U.S. dollars in revenue. Texas was the state where more of the companies in the ranking had their headquarters, such as D.R. Horton, Fluor, Jacobs, and other three companies.

European construction companies in the U.S.

Globally, Spain’s Grupo ACS is one of the largest construction contractors. Despite the location of its headquarters, North America was the region where ACS generated over half of its sales revenue, while less than a quarter was generated in Europe. The German construction company Hochtief also generated most of its revenue in the U.S., while its activities in Europe were much smaller.

U.S. construction companies

One of the largest construction companies in the U.S. is AECOM, which offers construction, architecture, design and engineering services. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, AECOM helped complete two temporary hospitals in New York. Meanwhile, the Irving, Texas-based company Fluor received billions of U.S. dollars in consolidated new awards. One construction company, KBR returned to the Fortune 500 list after having dropped down to the 501st position in previous years. Along with these companies, the commercial construction industry overall has seen continued growth. The overall construction spending in the U.S. is expected to keep increasing at a stable pace during the coming years.
