Hewlett Packard Enterprise - additional information

Hewlett Packard Enterprise's predecessor, Hewlett-Packard Company, was begun in 1935 by William Hewlett and David Packard, starting in a one-car garage. Initially producing a range of electronic test equipment, Hewlett-Packard Co eventually became one of the leading global manufacturers of personal computers. Their business also included storage, servers, and networking equipment, and IT services. The break-up of the company resulted in the separation of PCs and printers from the other segments, with HPE holding on to much of the enterprise-focused business. In 2016, HPE's net earnings sat at 3.16 billion U.S. dollars, with the company employing around 195,000 employees globally. The sale of its enterprise services division in May 2016 will likely affect both of these figures, but the ultimate impact is yet to be seenthis number

The major segments that Hewlett Packard Enterprise is reporting are enterprise group, which manufacturers enterprise technology infrastructure such as servers, storage and networking equipment, and offers technology services; software, which includes big data and and operations management software; and financial services, which support enterprise IT consumption and investment.

Due to HPE's history, the company already holds a significant share of a number of markets. For example, HPE supplies many of the world's leading supercomputers and is one of the largest companies competing in the global big data market. HPE holds a market share of five percent in the global purpose-built backup appliance market. Not only that, but in terms of name recognition, the Hewlett Packard name continues to be valuable. As of 2017, the Hewlett Packard brand ranked as one of the most valuable brands worldwide.
