Global IT spending has risen almost every year since 2005 and it is projected to rise further in 2016. Of the 3,413 billion U.S. dollars spent on IT in 2015, 866 billion U.S. dollars was spent in the IT services industry and 314 billion was spent on enterprise software. The enterprise software industry is forecast to grow further with revenue projected to hit 332 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. The telecom service sector is the segment of the IT industry which traditionally generates the most revenue, with spending in this sector reaching 1,400 billion U.S. dollars in 2015. However, this figure is expected to fall to 1,381 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2016. Of telecom spending in 2015, almost 1,100 billion was expected to be spent in the wireless sector.
Further losses are also projected in the devices market, where spending is forecast to fall from 662 billion U.S. dollars in 2015 to 627 billion U.S. dollars in 2016. Overall, while IT spending fell in 2015, it is forecast to remain stagnant in 2016. Spending in IT support services is expected to grow in the coming years. Spending in this sector stood at 162.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2014 and is expected to reach 177 billion U.S. dollars by 2018.
