In 2017, the expenditure on domestic tourism was approximately 3.04 billion euros, roughly 20 million euros more than in 2016. Furthermore, 2017 had the highest domestic tourism expenditure, indicating a rise in domestic holidays, confirmed as well by the expenditure on outbound holidays. In 2017, the outbound expenditure amounted to 14.33 billion euros, whereas in 2016 this was 12.63 billion euros.
