New cases of HIV diagnosed in Slovakia 2006-2017 In 2017, there were 70 new cases of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) diagnosed in Slovakia, this is a fall from the peak of 88 cases, which occurred in the preceding year 2016. The year with the lowest number of new HIV cases was in 2006, the first year in the provided time interval.
Cases of AIDS in Slovakia

The later stages of HIV are referred to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The cases of AIDS in Slovakia have increased alongside the rise in the number of HIV cases. Going from one case of AIDS in 2008 to ten in 2016.

European situation

The number of new HIV cases among men increased in Europe between 2008 and 2015, before falling in 2016 and further dropping in 2017. While at the same time, the number of cases among women has decreased year-on-year. In Europe, the highest number of new HIV cases in 2017 was found between men aged between 30 and 39 years at over 5.8 thousand.
