Excise duties on diesel fuel in the Netherlands 2008-2018 In the Netherlands, there are excise duties on the following products: alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and mineral oils such as petrol and diesel. Looking at the excise duties on diesel fuel in the Netherlands, duties grew annually in the period between 2008 and 2017. In 2008, the excise duty amounted to 38.2 eurocents per liter, whereas by 2018 this increased to a total of 49.8 eurocents per liter. Excise duties on unleaded 95 octane fuel were significantly higher. As of 2018, roughly 79 cents per liter of excise duties had to be payed for unleaded 95.
Diesel car imports and exports

The number of diesel car imports in the Netherlands significantly increased in the period between 2012 and 2017. Approximately 31,000 diesel cars were imported in 2012. In 2018, this increased to a total of 57,644 diesel car imports. Diesel car exports, however, decreased in the same time period. If in 2012 the number of exported diesel cars amounted to 167,525, in 2018 this decreased to 111,360.

New passenger cars sales

The majority of new passenger cars sold in the Netherlands in 2017 were petrol-fueled cars. 75 percent of the passenger cars sold had a petrol engine, whereas 17.4 percent were diesel cars and nearly two percent were electric cars.
