Largest gas and petrol station operators Netherlands 2018, by number of stations As of May 2018, the British-Dutch oil and gas company Shell exploited 416 petrol stations in the Netherlands, offering the most stations where individuals can refuel their vehicles. Tinq had approximately 320 gas stations, whereas Texaco and BP (British Petroleum) operated 290 and 253 petrol stations respectively. However, when including the unmanned stations of BP called Express, the British oil company has a total of 404 petrol stations. The total number of petrol stations in the Netherlands decreased annually from 2013 on. In 2013 there were 4,216 petrol stations, whereas by 2018 it had decreased to roughly 4,140.
Increase of unmanned petrol stations

Categorizing gas stations by manned and unmanned services , a significant development can be seen. In 2003, 3,661 manned and 575 unmanned gasoline stations were found in the Netherlands and by 2018, the number of manned petrol stations had decreased to 2,023. On the other hand, in 2018 there were 2,098 unmanned stations and the number of unmanned stations surpassed the manned stations for the first time.

Revenue increase in petrol stations in 2017

Even though there was a decline in manned petrol stations, the estimated revenue of gas stations had a more positive development in 2017. Despite a revenue decrease between 2011 to 2016, the revenue increased again to roughly 17.5 billion euros in 2017.
