Volkswagen is the leading brand in passenger car sales
Volkswagen, a German car manufacturer, was the most selling car brand in the Netherlands in 2020. Approximately 44,700 cars were sold by Volkswagen, whereas the South Korean car manufacturer Kia saw the total sales volume of passenger cars amount to around 26,800. Examining the sales volume of passenger cars by model type, Tesla model 3 was the leading model in the Netherlands with 29,922 sold units in 2019. Volkswagen sold roughly 13,000 Clio’s, whereas Ford saw the Focus model nearly reach a sales volume of 10,500.
Increase in electric vehicles
Electric passenger cars became more poplar between the period of 2013 to 2020. In 2013, there were 24,512 Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and 4,161 battery electric vehicles (BEV) to be found in the Netherlands. In 2020, this grew to a total of 109,754 PHEV’s and 182,486 BEV’s.
