This statistic represents the results of a survey in 2017 across eight cities in India about the reasons drivers across the southern city of Chennai make calls while driving. About 54 percent of respondents made calls at anytime because they did not think it was unsafe to do so, while four percent said they made calls if they were personal.

According to the source, within each city, four categories of drivers were surveyed: two-wheeler drivers, four-wheeler drivers, truck/bus drivers and auto-rickshaw drivers. Cities surveyed: Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Kanpur, Mumbai and Kolkata.
