Distribution of nursing homes in the U.S. 2003-2022, by certification type
Most nursing homes in the United States were both certified by Medicaid and Medicare. In the U.S., 94 percent of nursing homes were dually certified by both programs in 2022. During that year, the share of nursing homes solely certified by Medicaid stood at two percent, while nursing homes only certified by Medicare stood at four percent.
