Comparatively, only 1 percent of respondents aged 55 to 64 years indicated that they had been diagnosed with Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
