From 2009 to 2019, the international visitors' expenditure in Italy as a share of the Italian gross domestic product (GDP) increased. According to the study, it accounted for 1.8 percent of GDP in 2009. It then gradually increased over the course of the following years, reaching 2.5 percent of GDP in 2019.
