This statistic illustrates the distribution of women prisoners in custody in Italy as of May 2017, by region. According to data, the region with the highest share of female prisoners on the Italian territory was Lombardy, with roughly 18 percent of all the female inmates in Italy.
Only two regions - Aosta Valley and Molise - had no presence of the female prison population.
