Italy: Visa, Mastercard market share

Bancomat in Italy recovered its leading market position, after COVID-19 led to a significant decline in the use of the card brand. Both Visa and especially MasterCard were used more often for e-commerce and POS payments in the country in 2020 than the country's domestic payment option. No reason is provided for this sudden shift, although the increasing use of Visa could be attributed to a growing credit card penetration in Italy.
