This statistic displays the share of people with positive attitudes towards homosexuality in the Netherlands from 2002 to 2018. The share of respondents who believed gays and lesbians should be free to live their own life in the way they want to increased over time. In 2002, roughly 88 percent of the respondents was positive about this idea. As of 2018, this had increased to 94 percent of the respondents.

* This statement was phrased by the source as follows: "homoseksuele mannen en lesbiennes moeten vrij zijn om hun leven te leiden zoals zij dat zelf willen" (English: Homosexual males and lesbians should be free to live their lives how they want to). Respondents gave an answer on a spectrum from 1 (=completely agree) to 5 (=completely disagree). The percentages in this statistic are participants completely agreeing or agreeing with the statement (point 1 and 2 on the spectrum). Those who did not know, explicitly refused to answer or whose answers were missing have been coded as absent values.

The results have been weighted to represent the entire population.
