In 2018 the number of male deaths per 100,000 population caused by diabetes as the underlying cause in Australia was 18. This number rose to 22 in 2008 but since 2010 has remained at or below 20 male deaths per 100,000 of the population. Women also saw a peak in diabetes deaths in 2008 but this number has also since dropped to a steady 13 per 100,000 from 2010 onwards.
