Community of Madrid: esophagus tumor deaths 2005-2017

This statistic presents the annual number of deaths from esophageal cancer in the Community of Madrid from 2005 to 2017. In 2017, a total of 179 deaths were registered due to this type of cancer* in that Autonomous Community. The number of deaths from esophageal cancer in Spain amounted to nearly two thousand deaths in 2017. This figure has increased considerably over the last years.

* Esophageal cancer occurs in the epithelium or on the surface covering the esophagus in the form of carcinomas. Symptoms include dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), odynophagia (pain when swallowing), and weight loss. It occurs most often in adult men over 50 and is associated with alcohol and tobacco consumption.
