Share of M&A deal volume in the United States 1985-2018, by origin This statistic illustrates the share the of merger and acquisition deals involving the United States between 1985 and 2018, by nationality of involved enterprises. 2018 saw U.S. based companies value national deals over geographic expansion as the share of cross-border deals (both inbound and outbound) equaled less than 30 percent of the total volume for the first time since 1997.
This domestic focus has been estimated to continue for U.S based companies, with national based deals forecast to make up over 80 percent of deals by 2021.
