AI systems can replicate and amplify human biases, further conflating discriminatory issues and reinforcing social inequalities. This is exceptionally dangerous for developing economies that are more limited by technological developments and will therefore not benefit to the same degree as advanced economies. Developed countries have the additional insurance and insulation that their jobs are usually more skill intensive, making them difficult to replace. The lack of transparency, as most are developed by private business, on the functionality of AI programs can make it difficult to assess their fairness, accountability, and safety. AI systems can, and do, store and process large amounts of personal data, raising concerns about data privacy and security. AI systems also can make decisions that have significant impacts on individuals and society, and with that comes the need for accountability.Why is it important?
The AI market is immense and far-reaching, being used throughout nearly the entirety of human industries. Adaptation of AI programs to improve and enhance businesses can be found in everything from supply chains to product creation. This large market size and reach within industries further compounds the ethical concerns of artificial intelligence usage. The AI adoption is expected to grow considerably and with it, the problems of ethical AI. To tackle this, governments must draft/ provide industry-specific guidelines. Such industry-related regulations are critical as not all AI subindustries require the same solution - and nuances between industries make wide-scale regulatory bills unfeasible.
