With a revenue surpassing two billion U.S. dollars, the United States is the leading country in the candle market, followed by China and Japan, with much lower numbers. Moreover, the U.S. revenue was forecast to increase continuously in the following years, as well as the revenue per capita. This is not surprising when considering the results of a recent survey, showing that around 69 percent of the U.S. respondents stated that they use and/or buy home fragrance products regularly. As of 2022, among the most popular candle types in the North American country were container candles and tapers, while pillar and votive candles ranked third and fourth, respectively.Who dominates the candle market?
The candle market is ruled by a few industry names. One of the most successful is SC Johnson & Sons, owner of the Glade brand, which recorded revenues of approximately 11.1 billion U.S. dollars in its most recent fiscal year. In the same period of time, Newell Brands generated nearly 900 million U.S. dollars in net sales of candles. Newell Brands is the parent company of Yankee Candle, one of the most popular manufacturers and retailers of candles and other home décor products. The Yankee Candle’s revenue has remained overall stable in the most recent years, peaking at 864 million U.S. dollars in 2020. That year, the company’s e-commerce sales also reached record heights.
