The US State Department has released its annual Trafficking in Persons Report
, finding that the pace of prosecutions and convictions worldwide
has not slackened. Last year, there were an estimated 17,880 prosecutions, while there were 14,939 in 2016 and 19,127 in 2015. That was the year things started to improve drastically with the total number of prosecutions remaining at or below 10,000 in prior years. Convictions in 2016 amounted to 9,072 and that fell to 7,045 in 2017.
