According to data
collected by the U.S. Department of State, the number of convictions around the world for human trafficking
related offences has seen a rise of 4,905 from 2009 to 2016. Last year, an estimated total of 9,071 convictions were made.
Despite this increase, the number of identified victims actually saw a decrease from the peak in 2015 of 77,823 to 66,520. Of course though, convictions in 2016 are not necessarily connected to crimes committed in the same period.
