Industry revenue of »manufacture of basic iron, steel, ferro-alloys« in Poland 2011-2023

Revenues of the Polish iron, steel and ferro-alloys industry witnessed a decline between 2014-2016. However, technological advancements in manufacturing processes have led to an increase in production capacity, and revenues have been growing steadily ever since. In fact, Poland is now the fifth largest producer of crude steel in Europe and accounted for nearly 5 percent of the overall EU production in 2017, having produced a record of 10.3 million tonnes of steel. Moreover, the country exported 6 million tonnes of steel in 2017, with Germany, Czech Republic and Italy being the main recipients. However, the industry is set to face some challenging times ahead due to the outbreak of the corona virus. Industry operations and supply chains have been severely disrupted as the government has imposed a country wide lockdown. Steelmakers across the country are either cutting production or shutting down their plants, owing to the mounting losses.
