India - political party support by generation 2019

The political party preference among youngsters in India largely was aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party according to a survey conducted between January and February 2019. Among those who were born after 1996, also referred to as Gen Z, around 50 percent said that they aligned with the BJP, whereas 15 percent said they supported the Congress party.

According to the source, younger millennials refers to those born between 1990 and 1996 (23 to 29 years old in 2019). Older millennials are those born between 1981 to 1989 (30 to 38 years old in 2019). The younger generation, born after 1996, is referred to as ‘generation Z’ or Gen Zers, while the older generation born between 1965 and 1980 is referred to as ‘generation X’ or Gen Xers.
