The Brazilian state of Minas Gerais was the leading mine producer of iron ore in Brazil in 2017, with nearly 407 million metric tons produced. This represented almost 70 percent of the country's iron ore production that year. The state of Pará ranked second, with 168 million tons of iron ore produced.
